  4. yo. are there 2 rings up front?

  5. yes and no. it is a mountain crankset im using temporarily until i finish mine. i ground the teeth off the outer ring and am using it as a bash guard for the inner ring. great gear ratio, super quick.

  7. sweet. great to hear you're riding. gears are incredible. mechanical advantage is incredible. the same principles as a cars gearbox, it applies to everything. On friday i went to an appropriate tech. conference at MIT with my professor and one group was presenting this sweet wheelchair. it used levers (a long bar connected to a drivetrain on each wheel) instead of a rim bar to generate force. you kind of rowed each wheel. what was awesome about it is you can effectively change 'gears' by adjusting your hand placement on the bars. the equation for torque is: T=rF, where r is the length of the lever arm and F is the force perpendicular to it. genius idea that uses a simple mechanical system to take advantage of a powerful property. needs some improvement because you cant go backwards or stand on two wheels but otherwise it is solid. also.... the conference was at the MIT museum and this genius motherfucker Arthur Ganson has a permanent installation of his work there. coolest shit. im gonna post up vids.
