K'Naan
I recently discovered Somali-Canadian artist K'naan through his new album, Troubadour. This dude is making some really unique music, singing and rapping and blending the music of his native Somalia with really catchy yet conscious hip-hop. K'naan is actually really tight lyrically, but his distinctive musical sensibility is what sets him apart to me. I personally have not been able to get this track out of my head all day. If you like this song, you should get the album ASAP...even if you don't, you should get it anyway just for the Mos Def, Chali 2na and Damien Marley guest appearances.

So...are yall feelin this at all or not so much?
ReplyDeletehmmmm. i just posted about this, but it doesnt seem to have saved it...
ReplyDeletei really liked the song, thanks for posting it. i actually downloaded it, and it is sitting in my itunes library.
criticisms: it was a little bit to preachy for my liking. i almost felt like i was in church...but of course, some church choir is great, and a lot of fun to listen to.
keep the music coming my man...keep following your passions...keep it real...power to the people.
but definitely my kind of sound.
ReplyDeletewhere do you get the whole album
ReplyDeleteIdk I found a download somewhere online just by searching around...I don't wanna upload the whole thing here cause of the risk with a blog putting up albums and shit.
ReplyDeleteBut wait...too preachy? I'm gonna challenge that a bit. We listen to like...Arrested Development and Spearhead and shit...I feel like that's way more preachy than K'Naan lyrically. In fact, Michael Franti says a lot of the exact same shit basically that K'Naan says in this, except K'Naan is actually from one of the most dangerous places in the world and has been through the shit. Or did you just mean the sound of it musically was church-like?
maybe that was the wrong word...i hear you... i really liked it, but at the time, it felt preachy to me. i dont know. maybe because it is so uplifting... idk
