Dave Eggers (A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, etc.) and Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, etc.) collaborated to make this, which is an incredible event in itself. If this book is going to be made into a movie, it might as well be done like this. I really hope the movie is as good as this trailer makes it look. I think the adaptation seems pretty cool, especially the fact that it takes a closer look at why Max imakes mischief in the first place, and exactly what his journey to the land of the wild things means for him psychologically. Kind of a Pan's Labrynth sort of comment on escapism that I'm really interested in. It looks amazing as well, watch it in HD.

College student shot...for possession of marijuana

A college student at Grand Valley State University, Derek Copp was shot by a police officer for possessing marijuana. He was unarmed, and the story is still unclear as to why the officer fired his weapon. Derek is in the hospital, but students around the campus and the nation have begun to open their eyes to the devastating "War on Drugs."

Kenneth Foster is 26 years old, and lives on death row in good ol' Texas. He made the mistake of not driving away from an argument, which lead to the eventual death of Mr. LaHood...I don't particularly wannt to go into to much detail about the case, but essentially, he is one of many sitting every day, forced to let the outside world pass by, stuck in the prison industrial complex. Hooverville 2009

Really interesting article in the New York Times about the tent cities that are becoming more and more common due to the current economy. The slideshow of the conditions these people are living is really pretty harrowing...even in the midst of such intense poverty, you can't help but be impressed by the ways people are able survive without a true home.

K'Naan

I recently discovered Somali-Canadian artist K'naan through his new album, Troubadour. This dude is making some really unique music, singing and rapping and blending the music of his native Somalia with really catchy yet conscious hip-hop. K'naan is actually really tight lyrically, but his distinctive musical sensibility is what sets him apart to me. I personally have not been able to get this track out of my head all day. If you like this song, you should get the album ASAP...even if you don't, you should get it anyway just for the Mos Def, Chali 2na and Damien Marley guest appearances.

This is a really great article posted on Core77. The focus is how the current economic situation is affecting product design but the author has an almost historical approach. It's cool to read things we've lived through (and are living) analyzed then framed in some type of trend or context. Especially because he talks a lot about 'context' in the article!
