    That's really interesting...what do you think is going to happen with this? My gut reaction is that the UN won't agree to it, but who knows...

    well, this is definitely a first, and usually firsts, especially of this magnitude (asking the international community for 4 billion over the next 12 year) get shot down. there are a couple things that make it really attractive...1-ecuador is basically willing to match the international offer by forgoing the monetary profits it would have made otherwise. 2- the amazon acts as the lungs of the earth, and i would hope that the western/"developed"( if you can call us that, especially with all of the problems we have been creating) world has some conscience...i hope.

    one thing i just thought of is that it would be a funny response if the west/developed/buyers of the oil just said, we are not going to buy it if you drill it. period. not gonna happen. jut a thought.
